Amazon just launched a new service and device that – just because it is Amazon – could disrupt not only the delivery industry but the locksmithing industry as well.
Smart locks that feature some sort of remote access control – e.g. via an app – and a camera are nothing really new.
For the past 2 to 3 years at least 5 companies are trying to rais money via crowdfunding or venture capital.
And the fact that ASSA ABLOY – the worlds largest lock manufacturer – just bought the smart lock company August in the US, shows where electronic access control
is heading.
Amazon, as a retailer and influencer wouldn’t invest into a service/product like this if they wouldn’t see a huge potential.
At the moment the “Amazon Key In-Home Kit” is only available to Prime Members and no details were published about when and how Amazon plans to roll that service/product out in other countries.
